Discord Mobile App Tips and Tricks
The Discord mobile app has more features than most people realise. Here are the tips that make mobile use much more comfortable.
Navigation Shortcuts
- Swipe right on the chat area to open the server/channel list
- Swipe left on a server to open the member list
- Long press a server icon for quick notification settings
- Swipe down to close a DM or channel
Replying and Formatting
- Long press any message for the full action menu (reply, react, copy, pin, delete)
- Swipe right on a message to quick-reply to it
- Formatting markdown works the same as desktop:
bold,italic, etc. - Type
:to open the emoji picker
Voice and Video
- Join voice channels from mobile just like desktop
- Tap the phone icon at the bottom to unmute/mute
- Use Bluetooth settings to route audio to headphones or earbuds
- Enable noise suppression in Settings โ Voice & Video โ Noise Suppression
Managing Notifications
- Settings โ Notifications โ set per-type preferences
- Long press the notification for quick dismiss without opening the app
- Enable Focus Mode (iOS) or Do Not Disturb (Android) to silence during set hours
Finding Things Faster
- Pull down on the server list to reveal the search bar
- Use the @ icon on the bottom nav to see all unread @mentions across all servers
- The bell icon shows recent notifications
Sending Files and Images
- Tap the + icon next to the message bar to attach files
- Hold the camera icon to take a photo directly
- GIF and sticker buttons are in the emoji/attachment area
Useful Settings
- Compact Mode โ Shows more messages per screen
- Large Text โ Under Accessibility settings
- Reduce Motion โ Disables animations (saves battery)
- Data Saver โ Reduces auto-playing media on slower connections
