An F1 Discord server is a Discord community built around Formula 1 race weekends: session chat, results, predictions and voice watch-alongs. Everything in this guide uses standard Discord tools, so any server owner can set one up.

Interest is high right now. Kimi Antonelli became F1's youngest ever world champion on 1 November 2026, and the São Paulo Grand Prix follows on 6 to 8 November. Many fans are building servers to follow the rest of the season together.

This page explains a suggested channel layout, how to handle spoilers, how to schedule each session, how to run watch-alongs, and how to keep chat under control when a race gets busy.

🏎️ F1 Discord Server at a Glance

Need Discord tool Who can set it up
Official news and session times Announcement channel Admins (Community servers only)
Hiding results Spoiler tags and spoiler channels Anyone (tags), admins (channels)
Session reminders Scheduled Events Members with Create Events or Manage Events
Watch-alongs Voice channels or Stage channels Members with Manage Channels
Race predictions Polls Members with Create Polls
Busy race-day chat Slowmode and AutoMod Admins and moderators
Favourite team roles Community Onboarding Members with Manage Server and Manage Roles, or Administrator

Note: Announcement channels, Stage channels and Community Onboarding all need your server to have Community enabled.

Suggested Channel Layout

This is a starting layout, not a Discord requirement. Rename or merge channels to suit the size of your server.

Channel Type Purpose
#announcements Announcement Session times, server news and event links
#race-weekend Text Live chat during practice, qualifying, sprint and race
#spoilers Text, marked as a spoiler channel Results talk for members who haven't watched yet
#predictions Text Polls for pole, podium and winner picks
#memes Text Jokes and clips, kept out of the main chat
#sim-racing Text or forum The official F1 game, sim racing leagues and setups
Watch-along Voice or Stage Voice chat while everyone watches their own stream

To create an announcement channel, hover over a category, select the plus icon, choose Announcement as the channel type, name it and press Create Channel. After you post, a Publish option lets you share the message with servers that follow the channel.

For tips on writing clear updates, see our Discord announcements guide.

🚩 How to Handle Spoilers

Fans in different time zones often watch on delay, so spoiler control matters on a race weekend. Discord offers two tools.

Spoiler tags in messages

  • Markdown: wrap text in two bars on each side, like ||Leclerc takes pole||.
  • Slash command: type /spoiler before your message.
  • Desktop: highlight text and select the eye icon.
  • iOS: select the text, tap it, then tap Mark as Spoiler.
  • Images, videos and links: add the attachment, then select the Mark as Spoiler eye icon before sending. For a link, put the bars before and after the URL.

Two limits are worth knowing. Spoiler text inside a code block is not hidden, and Discord server invite embeds can't be hidden with spoiler tags.

A spoiler-only channel

A spoiler channel stays hidden until each member chooses to view it. Text, voice, forum and announcement channels can all be spoiler channels.

  1. On desktop or in a browser, select the Edit Channel icon next to the channel name.
  2. In the Overview tab, find Content Visibility.
  3. Turn on the Spoiler Channel toggle and press Save Changes.

The notice shows the channel topic, so write something clear there, such as "Race results and post-race talk."

📅 Scheduling Every Session With Events

Scheduled Events let members see what's coming and press Interested to get a notification when an event goes live. Create one event per session: practice, qualifying, sprint and the race.

  1. Select the down arrow next to your server's name and choose Create Event.
  2. Pick a location: Stage Channel, Voice Channel or Somewhere Else (a text channel, external link or physical place).
  3. Fill in the event details.
  4. Review the preview and press Create Event.

To start an event, open Events in the channel list, select the three dots under it and choose Start Event. Members who marked themselves Interested are notified.

Things to know:

  • Permissions: Create Events lets a member manage their own events. Manage Events lets them edit or cancel any event.
  • Limit: a server can have up to 100 scheduled events at once.
  • Voice channel events are limited to 99 participants, according to Discord.
  • Time zones: Discord's help article doesn't explain how event times appear across time zones. Writing the session time in UTC in the event description helps fans abroad.

🎧 Running Race Watch-Alongs

A watch-along works best as voice chat alongside each person's own legal stream. Members tune in through their own broadcaster or subscription, then talk in Discord.

Don't stream the race broadcast itself into Discord. Broadcast rights belong to the rights holders, and Discord's Stage guidelines ask hosts to only use content they own or have a licence to use.

Option Best for Key details
Voice channel Small groups who all want to talk Everyone can speak; events in voice channels cap at 99 participants
Stage channel Big servers with hosts Speakers talk while the audience listens; up to 10,000 audience members when audio only

To create a Stage channel, select the plus button in the channel list, choose Stage Channel, press Next, then add your Stage moderators. Audience members can raise their hand to ask to speak.

📊 Prediction Polls

Polls are a simple way to collect pole, podium or winner picks before lights out.

  1. Select the plus sign in the message box of a text channel.
  2. Select Poll.
  3. Add your question, up to 10 answers (each can have an emoji), a duration and whether people can pick more than one answer.
  4. Select Post.

The steps are the same on mobile. Poll lengths are 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, 3 days or 1 week. Votes aren't anonymous, and you can't create a poll with a slash command.

To limit who can post polls, edit a role in Server Settings > Roles and change Create Polls.

🛡️ Managing Race-Day Spikes

A late safety car or a last-lap move can flood chat. Slowmode and AutoMod help moderators keep up.

Slowmode

Slowmode makes each member wait between messages in a channel.

Desktop or browser:

  1. Open the channel's settings with the cogwheel icon.
  2. In Overview, scroll to Slowmode.
  3. Pick a time from 5 seconds up to 6 hours, then press Save.

Mobile:

  1. Long-press the channel and select Edit Channel.
  2. Find Slowmode Cooldown, drag the dial and tap Save.

Give moderators the Bypass Slowmode permission under Server Settings > Roles so they can post freely.

AutoMod

Open Server Settings > AutoMod to set up filters:

  • Commonly Flagged Words: ready-made lists for insults and slurs, sexual content and severe profanity.
  • Custom Keywords: your own words or phrases.
  • Block Spam Content: catches spam like fake free Nitro offers and invite spam.
  • Block Mention Spam: limits how many mentions a message can contain.

AutoMod can block a message, send an alert to a private mod channel, or time out the user (Custom Keyword rules only). It also applies to poll questions and answers. Our AutoMod setup guide walks through each rule.

🏆 Favourite Team Roles With Onboarding

Community Onboarding lets new members pick their own roles and channels by answering questions. It's a tidy way to hand out team roles.

  1. On desktop, go to Server Settings > Onboarding.
  2. Add Default Channels. You need at least 7, and at least 5 must let @everyone view and send messages.
  3. Create a Customization Question, such as "Which team do you support?"
  4. Add an answer for each team and assign the matching role.
  5. Choose whether to Ask before a member joins or leave it for the Channels & Roles tab, then preview and enable.

Members can change their answers later in Channels & Roles. For colours, hierarchy and permissions, read our roles and permissions guide.
