Discord Profile Customization: Make Your Profile Stand Out
Your Discord profile is your identity in every server. Here's how to make it memorable.
Basic Profile Elements
Username and Display Name:
- Your unique username (all-lowercase, used for @mentions)
- Your display name (shown in servers โ can be different from username)
- Per-server nicknames set by you or mods
Avatar:
- Upload any image as your avatar
- Animated GIF avatars require Nitro
- 128ร128 minimum; higher is better
About Me
Add a bio visible on your profile:
- User Settings โ Profiles โ About Me
- Up to 190 characters
- Supports some markdown formatting and emoji
Good About Me ideas:
- What you do / your interests
- Your timezone (helpful for gaming communities)
- Your role in communities you're part of
- A link to your website or social
Profile Banner (Nitro)
With Nitro, add a banner image that appears at the top of your profile:
- User Settings โ Profiles โ Profile Banner
- Upload an image (600ร240 minimum, PNG or GIF)
- Animated banners supported with Nitro
Connected Accounts
Link your accounts to show off your presence:
- Settings โ Connections โ Connect Steam, Twitch, YouTube, GitHub, Twitter, etc.
- Toggle "Display on Profile" for each connection
- Shows as clickable links on your profile
Profile Badges
Badges are earned, not purchased:
- Active Developer badge (use the Discord Developer Platform)
- Early Nitro Supporter (had Nitro before Oct 2018)
- Bug Hunter (find and report Discord bugs)
- Discord Staff / Partner / HypeSquad
- Boost badges (how long you've been boosting a server)
Server-Specific Profiles
Edit your appearance per-server:
- Right-click the server โ Edit Server Profile
- Set a custom nickname, avatar, and banner just for that server
