Discord Account Recovery Guide: Regain Access to Your Account
Locked out of your Discord account? This guide covers every recovery scenario ā from forgotten passwords to hacked accounts and disabled accounts.
Scenario 1: Forgot Password
- Go to discord.com and click "Forgot your password?"
- Enter the email address associated with your account
- Check your inbox for a reset email from Discord (check spam if it doesn't arrive)
- Click the link in the email and set a new strong password
- Log in with your new password
Email not working?
- Make sure you're checking the right email ā try other addresses you may have used
- The reset link expires after a few minutes; request a new one if needed
Scenario 2: Lost Access to 2FA
If you enabled two-factor authentication but lost your phone or authenticator app:
- On the login screen, click "Lost your authentication code?"
- Enter one of your backup codes (you should have saved these when enabling 2FA)
- If you don't have backup codes, click "Contact Support" and explain your situation
Prevention: Always save your 2FA backup codes somewhere safe when enabling 2FA.
Scenario 3: Hacked Account
If someone else has access to your account:
- Immediately use password reset (Scenario 1) to lock them out
- Change your email password too, in case that was compromised
- Enable 2FA after regaining access
- Check your account settings for any changes (email, phone, connected accounts)
- Report to Discord Support if you cannot regain access: support.discord.com
Scenario 4: Disabled Account
Discord disables accounts that violate their Terms of Service.
- Visit support.discord.com
- Submit a ticket explaining your situation
- Select "Appeals, Age Update, or Other Questions" as the category
- Provide your account email and a clear explanation
- Wait for Discord's review ā this can take 1ā14 days
Note: Not all disabled accounts can be recovered. If the violation was severe (e.g., CSAM), the ban is permanent.
Scenario 5: Forgotten Email
If you can't remember which email you used:
- Try all email addresses you own
- Check if you connected a phone number ā try logging in with that
- Contact Discord Support with any identifying information (username, servers you were in)
Preventing Future Lockouts
ā Save your 2FA backup codes offline ā Keep your recovery email up to date ā Add a phone number as a secondary recovery option ā Use a password manager ā Enable login alerts if available
