Discord Account Recovery Guide: Regain Access to Your Account

Locked out of your Discord account? This guide covers every recovery scenario — from forgotten passwords to hacked accounts and disabled accounts.

Scenario 1: Forgot Password

  1. Go to discord.com and click "Forgot your password?"
  2. Enter the email address associated with your account
  3. Check your inbox for a reset email from Discord (check spam if it doesn't arrive)
  4. Click the link in the email and set a new strong password
  5. Log in with your new password

Email not working?

  • Make sure you're checking the right email — try other addresses you may have used
  • The reset link expires after a few minutes; request a new one if needed

Scenario 2: Lost Access to 2FA

If you enabled two-factor authentication but lost your phone or authenticator app:

  1. On the login screen, click "Lost your authentication code?"
  2. Enter one of your backup codes (you should have saved these when enabling 2FA)
  3. If you don't have backup codes, click "Contact Support" and explain your situation

Prevention: Always save your 2FA backup codes somewhere safe when enabling 2FA.

Scenario 3: Hacked Account

If someone else has access to your account:

  1. Immediately use password reset (Scenario 1) to lock them out
  2. Change your email password too, in case that was compromised
  3. Enable 2FA after regaining access
  4. Check your account settings for any changes (email, phone, connected accounts)
  5. Report to Discord Support if you cannot regain access: support.discord.com

Scenario 4: Disabled Account

Discord disables accounts that violate their Terms of Service.

  1. Visit support.discord.com
  2. Submit a ticket explaining your situation
  3. Select "Appeals, Age Update, or Other Questions" as the category
  4. Provide your account email and a clear explanation
  5. Wait for Discord's review — this can take 1–14 days

Note: Not all disabled accounts can be recovered. If the violation was severe (e.g., CSAM), the ban is permanent.

Scenario 5: Forgotten Email

If you can't remember which email you used:

  • Try all email addresses you own
  • Check if you connected a phone number — try logging in with that
  • Contact Discord Support with any identifying information (username, servers you were in)

Preventing Future Lockouts

āœ… Save your 2FA backup codes offline āœ… Keep your recovery email up to date āœ… Add a phone number as a secondary recovery option āœ… Use a password manager āœ… Enable login alerts if available
