Discord Safe Server Checklist: Is Your Server Protected?
Use this checklist to audit your server's safety. Check off each item and fix what's missing.
Verification & Access
- [ ] Verification level set to Medium or higher
- [ ] New members cannot post links until verified
- [ ] NSFW channels are age-gated (if applicable)
- [ ] A verification bot is in place (Captcha.bot, Wick)
- [ ] New members have limited permissions until they've been active for 7+ days
AutoMod Configuration
- [ ] Spam detection enabled
- [ ] Mass mention blocking enabled (4+ mentions = auto-delete)
- [ ] Suspicious link blocking enabled
- [ ] Keyword filter covering slurs and known spam phrases
- [ ] Auto-action (delete + warn) configured for violations
Bot Security
- [ ] All bots have only the permissions they need (no unnecessary Admin)
- [ ] Bot roles are properly positioned in the hierarchy
- [ ] Unused bots have been removed
- [ ] A logging bot is active (Carl-bot or Dyno)
- [ ] An anti-raid bot is active (Wick recommended)
Channel Security
- [ ] @everyone role has minimal permissions by default
- [ ] Sensitive channels are restricted to appropriate roles
- [ ] Mod-only channels are invisible to regular members
- [ ] A #report channel or system is in place
- [ ] Mod-log channel is actively monitored
Staff & Moderation
- [ ] At least 3 active moderators (no single point of failure)
- [ ] No one has unnecessary Admin permissions
- [ ] 2FA required for all staff accounts (Server Settings โ 2FA Requirement)
- [ ] Clear punishment escalation system is documented
- [ ] Ban appeal process exists
Education
- [ ] Phishing warning is pinned or in rules
- [ ] Members know how to report issues
- [ ] Staff have been trained on moderation procedures
