Discord Anti-Raid Guide: How to Protect Your Server

A Discord raid is a coordinated attack where multiple accounts flood your server simultaneously. Here's how to prevent them and respond when they happen.

Understanding Raids

Raids typically involve:

  • Mass joins โ€” dozens of accounts joining in seconds
  • Spam flooding โ€” filling every channel with noise
  • Mass pinging โ€” @everyone or individual member mentions
  • NSFW bombing โ€” posting graphic images across channels
  • Bot accounts โ€” often newly created accounts with no profile

Layer 1: Verification Settings

Go to Server Settings โ†’ Safety Setup.

| Level | Requirement | Best for | |-------|------------|---------| | None | No requirement | Private servers only | | Low | Verified email | Most servers | | Medium | Member for 5 minutes | Public servers | | High | Member for 10 minutes | Servers with raid history | | Highest | Phone verified | High-risk servers |

Recommendation: Set at least Medium for any public server.

Layer 2: Discord AutoMod

Enable these AutoMod rules specifically for raid protection:

  • Mention spam โ€” timeout anyone mentioning 5+ people at once
  • Message spam โ€” block rapid duplicate messages
  • Harmful links โ€” block phishing links raiders use

Layer 3: Member Screening

Go to Server Settings โ†’ Community โ†’ Member Screening and require new members to agree to your rules before they can interact.

Layer 4: Anti-Raid Bots

Wick (Best dedicated anti-raid bot)

Wick watches for suspicious mass-join patterns and can:
  • Automatically lock the server if a raid threshold is met
  • Verify new members via DM
  • Block VPNs and proxy connections
  • Detect and ban alt accounts

Layer 5: Staff Response Plan

Immediate response:

  1. Enable the slowest verification level
  2. Enable slowmode (60s+) in every active channel
  3. Temporarily lock channels if needed
  4. Mass-ban raiders using the ban feature

After the raid:

  1. Review the audit log to identify all accounts involved
  2. Document what happened (screenshots, timestamps)
  3. Report raid organiser accounts to Discord Trust & Safety
  4. Review your settings and plug any gaps

Lockdown Commands

If your moderation bot supports lockdown commands, set one up now:

  • Carl-bot and Dyno both support lockdown commands
  • Having this ready means you can lock a server in one command
