Discord Raid Prevention: Stop Raids Before They Start

A Discord raid — coordinated mass joining to spam and disrupt — can devastate a community in minutes. Prevention is far better than recovery.

Prevention Layer 1: Verification

• Set Verification Level to High (member for 10 minutes before typing)
• Consider Highest (phone verified) after a raid
• Add a verification bot (Captcha.bot, Wick) for double verification

Prevention Layer 2: AutoMod Rules

Set up these AutoMod rules:

• Block messages with 5+ line breaks (copy-paste spam)
• Block messages with 4+ @mentions
• Block Discord invite links from unverified members
• Keyword filter for common raid phrases

Prevention Layer 3: Anti-Raid Bots

Wick — The best anti-raid bot:

• Detects mass joins (5+ joins in 10 seconds = lockdown mode)
• Auto-kicks suspicious accounts (new, no avatar, no messages elsewhere)
• Auto-bans accounts that join and immediately post spam

Carl-bot:

• Lockdown command: /lockdown prevents anyone from talking
• Unlock when the raid passes

When a Raid Is Happening

1. Lockdown immediately: /lockdown or manually deny Send Messages for @everyone
2. Enable slowmode on all open channels (60 seconds)
3. Increase verification level to Highest temporarily
4. Ban raiders in bulk — use the ban menu or raid-ban commands in Wick
5. Check for compromised accounts — some raids come from real accounts that were hijacked
6. Post an update when it's over so legitimate members know what happened

Post-Raid Recovery

• Review which accounts joined during the raid period
• Remove any content they posted
• Consider temporarily closing the server to new joins
• Review how they got in and patch the gap
