Grand Theft Auto VI is eight days away, and the download has already started. The GTA 6 preload was first set for 12 November, but Rockstar moved it forward two days. Digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S began preloading on 10 November.
That matters because this is a huge download. Rockstar says it's up to 212GB, depending on your device, so starting early could save your launch night.

Rockstar's support page sets out different start times for each console. PlayStation rolls out by local time zone, while Xbox opens everywhere at once.

In Rockstar's words, on PS5 "digital pre-load begins at midnight local time in your respective time zone on November 10, 2026." On Xbox, "digital pre-load begins globally at 12 a.m. GMT."

💾 How Big Is the GTA 6 Download?
Rockstar's preload announcement puts the size at "up to 212GB depending on your device," as quoted by VGC and GamingBible. That's close to the 210GB figure that leaked earlier for PlayStation.
Rockstar hasn't given an exact size for each console. Push Square reports the 212GB figure as the PS5 size. Either way, clear well over 200GB before you start, and leave room for any launch-day patch.
🎮 How to Make Sure Your Preload Starts
GamingBible, quoting Rockstar's post, says the download can run automatically if your console is set up for it.
On PS5:
- Make sure your digital pre-order is on the account you play on.
- Turn on automatic downloads in your console settings.
- Leave the console on or in Rest Mode from 10 November.
On Xbox Series X|S:
- Check that your pre-order shows in your library.
- Turn on automatic updates.
- Leave the console on or in Sleep mode.
If nothing seems to happen, check your console's download queue.
📦 The Physical Edition Is a Code in a Box
Buying a box won't get you a disc. Rockstar's support page says "a disc will not be included in the box." Instead, you get a code for the digital game.

Here's what Rockstar confirms about physical copies:
- Release: available for shipping and retailer pickup from 12 November.
- Preload: codes work "as soon as they are received."
- Bonus: the box includes a code for the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- No physical Ultimate Edition: owners can buy the upgrade later from the PlayStation or Microsoft store.
- Region rules: PS5 codes are tied to your account's region group. Xbox codes aren't region locked.

Take-Two's pre-order announcement lists two editions:

Some launch details are floating around without official backing. Treat these with care:
- PC version: Rockstar's pages list only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced.
- Unlock time: Push Square reports that GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time on 19 November. We couldn't find that on Rockstar's support pages.
- Exact size per console: Rockstar says "up to 212GB" without breaking it down.

💬 Getting Your Discord Ready for Launch Week
GTA 6 servers are getting busier as launch nears. On 4 November, the official Rockstar Games server had about 954,000 members and around 91,000 online, according to Discord's invite data. That's roughly 10,000 more members than when we checked on 21 October.
The fan-run Grand Theft Auto VI server, linked to r/GTA6, has grown to about 65,000 members in the same period.
