Most games need a launch to hit 300,000 players. Valve's Deadlock did it without one. The Deadlock player count reached a record 303,347 concurrent players on 16 October 2026, according to SteamDB-based tracking, and the game is still invite-only.
It's also climbing on Discord. Deadlock was the fourth-biggest trending game on Discord for 16 to 22 October, with streams up 94%.
Here's what pushed the numbers up, how to actually get into Deadlock, and the scams to avoid while you wait for an invite.
At a glance - Record: 303,347 concurrent players on 16 October 2026 - Previous record: 262,145 on 9 October - What drove it: the City Never Sleeps update and five new heroes in 19 days - Access: still invite-only through friends who already play - Price: free to play for invited players, with no store price
📈 How the Deadlock Player Count Hit 303K
Tech Insider reports that Deadlock beat its previous record of 262,145 players, set on 9 October, by 41,202 players a week later.

Two things drove the surge:
- The City Never Sleeps update. Released on 29 September, it rebuilt the map visuals and added six heroes, a UI overhaul, a reworked ping system, smarter NPCs and better anti-cheat.
- A run of new heroes. Five new heroes arrived in 19 days, starting with Rat King on 2 October. The record landed on Violet's release day, 16 October, and Nurse Harrow followed on 20 October.
For context, GamingOnLinux noted the game regularly hit around 80,000 players before the update.
One caveat: these numbers come from SteamDB-based tracking. Tech Insider says it "found no official Valve statement" on the figure.
🔑 Is Deadlock Still Invite-Only?
Yes. Deadlock's Steam page says, "Access is currently limited to friend invite via our playtesters." There's no store price and no public release date.
How to get a Deadlock invite
- Ask friends who already play. Existing playtesters can invite friends through Steam.
- Ask in gaming communities. Some communities, like GamingOnLinux's forum, run threads where players share spare invites.
- Accept the invite in Steam. Once invited, Deadlock appears in your library to download for free.
Valve says building a multiplayer game is "very hard and risky," so it wants players in early to shape it.
⚠️ Don't Pay for Deadlock Invites
When a game is invite-only, scammers follow. Watch out for:
- Anyone selling Deadlock invites or "beta keys"
- DMs offering access if you log in to a link
- Fake "Deadlock giveaway" servers
Invites are free and come through Steam. Our guide to the fake giveaway epidemic shows how these scams work on Discord.
💬 Deadlock on Discord
Discord's game page doesn't list an official Deadlock server, and the trending chart shows the game in 34 servers. Most of the action is in community servers, where players share invites, builds and hero tier lists.

Since there's no official server, stick to well-known communities with clear rules. A Discord server finder helps you compare servers by size and activity. If you like hero shooters, our list of Valorant Discord servers is a good place to find squads too.
🔮 What's Next for Deadlock?
Valve hasn't announced a release date. In its update notes, it said progression and hero and hideout customisation are still open to change, and that Midboss, Guardians and Walkers are planned for future updates.
