What Is The One Ring RPG?
The One Ring is Free League’s officially licensed tabletop RPG based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Players create their own characters and explore Middle earth rather than simply replaying the events of The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings.
The current second edition launched in 2022 and focuses heavily on Tolkien’s themes of fellowship, travel, danger and the growing influence of the Shadow.

What Is Included in the New Campaign?
The campaign contains six volumes across The One Ring and The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E.
For The One Ring, the major releases include:
Revised Core Rules
The revised Core Rules reorganize and clarify the existing system while refining character creation, progression and combat.
The book remains compatible with previously published adventures and supplements, allowing existing players to continue using their collections.
Creatures Strange and Foul
The campaign introduces a dedicated Middle earth bestiary containing creatures and enemies including iconic threats such as Ringwraiths and Balrogs.
This represents an important addition for Loremaster led campaigns because the new material provides a broader collection of adversaries specifically designed for Middle earth adventures.
The White Tower and the Hall of Gold
The campaign also expands the playable world toward Gondor and Rohan, giving groups new locations and adventures beyond the northern regions that have featured heavily in earlier material.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E
The campaign is not limited to The One Ring.
Free League is also updating The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E, its fifth edition adaptation of Tolkien’s setting.

This gives players two distinct ways to experience Middle earth: Free League’s dedicated The One Ring system or its adaptation for players who prefer the familiar fifth edition framework.

Strider Mode and Solo Play
One of the most notable additions is Strider Mode.
The system allows players to experience adventures without a Loremaster, making solo play possible. Both revised core rulebooks will incorporate the solo rules, which previously existed separately in PDF form.
