The Ultimate Guide to Gears of War: E-Day's Horde Siege

Gears of War: E-Day is The Coalition's prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War, following young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the first Locust invasion. Built in Unreal Engine 5, it launches on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including day one on Game Pass.

Its biggest multiplayer addition is Horde Siege, a reimagined version of the series' classic co-op survival mode.

Launch Preparations

According to GamesRadar, the game launches simultaneously worldwide at 3 PM UTC.

  • Preload: Available from September 29
  • Early Access: October 1 for Premium and Collector's Edition owners
  • Full launch: October 6, including Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass
  • Install size: About 115 to 120 GB
  • Preorder bonus: Exfil Dom character skin and Exfil Weapon Skin Set

๐Ÿ’ก Note: On Xbox consoles, online campaign co-op, Horde Siege and Versus require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer.

How Horde Siege Works

Horde Siege supports up to 12 players split into three squads of four. As Wikipedia notes, unlike earlier Horde modes, multiple squads operate at the same time across one large map.

  • Shared objectives: Squads can complete their own missions while contributing to shared goals
  • Extraction: Players must survive and extract at the end of a run
  • Launch maps: Three Horde Siege maps, set across the city of Kalona
  • Playlists: Fan guides list Blitz, Siege and full Horde runs of different lengths

Horde Siege Classes

Four classes are available at launch:

  • Assault: Frontline combat
  • Breacher: Close-range pressure
  • Marksman: Long-range support
  • Medic: Healing and revives, including players from other squads

There's no required squad composition, so teams can experiment freely.

Updated Versus PvP

E-Day brings back 4v4 Versus with the biggest multiplayer changes since Gears of War 3.

  • New controls: Cover moves to A, sprint to left-stick click, and vault and jump to Y
  • Better mobility: Updated movement and traversal create more flanking options
  • Post-launch plans: The Coalition has confirmed limited-time Versus modes

Achievements

Xbox officially revealed 55 achievements after the list leaked through Steam. As Pure Xbox reports, they cover the campaign, Horde Siege and Versus.

Notable names include:

  • Got to the Choppa: Unlocks during Act 2 of the campaign
  • Chainsaw Go Brrrrrrrrr: Chainsaw a Locust in Campaign or Horde Siege
  • I WILL MASSACRE YOU: Kill 50,000 enemies in Horde Siege
  • Stacks, On Stacks, On Stacks: Spend 150,000 Energy at the Supply Cache
  • The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day: Earn all other achievements

โš ๏ธ Important: Many achievements require major time commitments, including high kill counts in Horde Siege and Versus and an Insane campaign run.

Why It Matters

Horde Siege is the boldest change to Gears multiplayer in years, turning a classic wave-survival mode into a larger, objective-driven experience. With more classes, maps and modifiers already confirmed for after launch, it could become E-Day's long-term centerpiece.

๐ŸŽฎ The Bottom Line

Gears of War: E-Day's Horde Siege brings 12-player co-op, four classes and extraction-based runs to the series. Preload now, clear storage space, and get ready for launch on October 6.
