Discord Stage Channels: What They Are and How to Use Them
Stage Channels are designed for one-to-many audio broadcasts โ perfect for AMAs, panels, talks, and announcements.
What Are Stage Channels?
Unlike regular voice channels (where everyone can speak), Stage Channels split participants into:
- Speakers โ Can talk (mics unmuted)
- Audience โ Can only listen (mics permanently muted)
Audience members can raise their hand to request to speak.
When to Use Stage Channels
- AMAs (Ask Me Anything) โ audience submits questions in text chat
- Panel discussions or interviews
- Community announcements
- Podcast recordings with live audience
- Game commentary with spectators
Setting Up a Stage Channel
- In your server, click + next to a category
- Select Stage Channel
- Name it (e.g. "๐๏ธ Community Stage")
- Set permissions โ who can be a speaker vs. audience
Running a Stage Event
Starting the Stage:
- Join the Stage Channel
- A prompt asks you to describe the topic of today's Stage
- You become the Stage Moderator automatically
Managing Speakers:
- Invite audience members to speak: click their name โ Invite to Speak
- Remove speaker access: click their name โ Move to Audience
- Audience members can raise their hand โ you see a notification
Ending the Stage:
- Click "End Stage" โ all participants are disconnected
Scheduling Stage Events
Use Discord Scheduled Events to announce your Stage in advance:
- Click + next to Events in your server
- Select the Stage Channel as the location
- Add topic, time, and description
- Members can mark "Interested" and get notified when it starts
Stage events are great community builders โ promote them in your Discords.ai listing.
