Discord Server Region and Audio Quality Settings
The right region and audio settings reduce lag, improve voice quality, and make your server feel more responsive.
Server Region
Discord uses regions to route server traffic to nearby infrastructure. While Discord mostly auto-selects the best region, you can override it:
- Server Settings โ Overview
- Find Server Region
- Click Change to manually select a region
Available regions (2025): US East, US Central, US West, US South, Brazil, Europe, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, India, South Africa, Sydney, Rotterdam, Russia, Hongkong
How to choose: Pick the region closest to the geographic center of your active members. For global servers, auto-select is usually best.
Voice Channel Bitrate
Bitrate controls voice quality. Higher = better, but requires more bandwidth:
- Default: 64kbps (fine for basic voice)
- Recommended minimum: 96kbps
- Good quality: 128kbps
- Maximum (Level 3): 384kbps
To change per-channel:
- Right-click a voice channel โ Edit Channel
- Slide the Bitrate slider
- Note: higher tiers are only available with server boosts
Bitrate limits by boost level:
- Level 0: 96kbps max
- Level 1: 128kbps max
- Level 2: 256kbps max
- Level 3: 384kbps max
Video Quality
For Go Live streaming quality:
- Level 0: 720p 30fps
- Level 1: 720p 60fps
- Level 2: 1080p 30fps
- Level 3: 1080p 60fps
Troubleshooting Audio Issues
- Lag/delay: Switch to a closer region
- Echo: Members need to enable Echo Cancellation in their audio settings
- Background noise: Enable Krisp noise suppression in User Settings โ Voice
- Low quality: Increase channel bitrate if within boost level limit
Optimal audio makes voice channels more inviting. List your active server on Discords.ai.
