How to Screen Share on Discord
Discord's screen sharing is built into voice channels and works without any third-party software. Here's everything you need to know.
Screen Sharing in Voice Channels
- Join a voice channel
- Click the monitor icon at the bottom of the screen ("Share Your Screen")
- Choose what to share:
- Set Frame Rate (15/30/60 fps) and Resolution (720p/1080p/Source)
- Click Go Live
Note: 1080p and 60fps require Nitro. Free users cap at 720p30.
Sharing a Specific Application vs. Full Screen
Application sharing (recommended for most uses):
- Only shows that application โ other windows stay private
- Better for sharing code editors, games, documents
Full screen sharing:
- Shows everything โ notifications, taskbar, other windows
- Use when you need to switch between apps frequently
Watching Someone's Screen Share
- Look for the stream preview thumbnail in the voice channel
- Click it to open the stream in a floating window
- Click Pop out to watch in a separate window while doing other things
Mobile Screen Sharing
- Join a voice channel on mobile
- Tap the monitor icon in the call controls
- Confirm you want to share your screen
- Your entire mobile screen is shared
Note: iOS limits screen sharing to apps that support broadcast (some apps block it).
Tips for Better Screen Shares
- Close personal tabs and notifications before sharing
- Use a wired connection for lower latency
- Enable Hardware Acceleration in Discord settings for smoother streaming
- If sharing a game, use Go Live's game-specific mode for better performance
Screen sharing is great for community tutorials and events โ promote them to attract members via your Discords.ai listing.
