How to Set Up a Promotion Channel on Your Discord Server
A promotion channel creates value for members while naturally promoting your server through their audiences.
Types of Promotion Channels
- #self-promo — Members share their social content (YouTube, Twitch, art, projects)
- #server-promo — Servers advertise to your members (in exchange for the same)
- #commissions-open — Artists or creators advertise their services
- #looking-for-members — Groups or teams recruiting
Setting Up a Self-Promo Channel
- Create the channel in an appropriate category
- Set slowmode (24-hour slowmode prevents spam while still allowing promotion)
- Post pinned rules (see template below)
- Configure permissions: Members can post, mods can delete
- Make it read-only for @everyone except the role that can promote (e.g. Level 5+)
Pinned Rules Template
📢 #self-promo Rules
✅ Share your: • YouTube/Twitch/TikTok content • Art and creative projects • Games or apps you've made • Websites and tools
❌ Do not post: • Discord invite links (use #server-promo) • MLM or spam • Content that violates Discord ToS • More than once per 24 hours
Posts that break these rules will be deleted.
Managing Promo Channels
- Set slowmode aggressively (24 hours) to prevent the channel becoming a dump
- Moderate for quality — bad content reflects on your server
- Engage with members' promotions — react, leave a comment
- Remove members who post irrelevant or low-quality content repeatedly
The Benefit to Your Server
When members share your server's invite in their own content:
- "Made this in [Your Server] — join us here!"
This is organic word-of-mouth promotion that costs you nothing. Keep your listing updated on Discords.ai so new referrals find a polished profile.
