Discord Invite Link Strategies to Get More Members
Your invite link is the gateway to your community. Most server owners use one link for everything โ here's why that's a mistake and how to do it better.
Creating the Right Invite Link
Settings that matter:
- Expiry: Set to "Never expire" for any link you share publicly
- Max uses: Leave unlimited for public links
- Channel: Point to your
#welcomeor#start-herechannel, not#general
How to create:
- Click the invite icon on any channel
- Click "Edit Invite Link" for advanced settings
- Set expiry to Never, uses to No Limit
- Copy and save
Vanity URLs (Custom Invite Links)
With Community Mode enabled and 100+ members, you can create a custom URL: discord.gg/yourservername
- Go to Server Settings โ Vanity URL
- Choose a short, memorable keyword
- Claim it โ first come, first served
Vanity URLs are far more shareable and professional than random character strings.
Track Multiple Sources
Create different invite links for different platforms to track where members come from:
- One link for Reddit posts
- One link for TikTok bio
- One link for your Discords.ai listing
- One link for partner servers
In Server Insights, you can see which invite links are generating the most joins.
Where to Share Your Invite
High-conversion placements:
- Your Discords.ai listing (biggest source of organic joins)
- Your social media bios (Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube)
- Reddit posts in relevant subreddits
- Your website or blog
- Email signature
- Partner server #partners channels
- GitHub README if you're a dev community
Invite Link Best Practices
- Audit your invite links quarterly โ remove old, expired ones
- Never share the same invite in too many places at once (can trigger spam filters)
- Don't share in DMs to strangers โ that's against Discord ToS
- Add UTM parameters to website links to track in Google Analytics
