How to Run Gaming Giveaways on Discord
Giveaways are one of the fastest ways to grow your gaming server and reward existing members. Here's how to run them properly.
What to Give Away
High-value prizes (big growth):
- Steam games or game keys
- Discord Nitro (1 month or 1 year)
- Gaming peripherals (headsets, controllers)
- In-game currency or cosmetics (Valorant Points, V-Bucks, etc.)
Low-cost prizes (regular use):
- Custom Discord roles (e.g. "Giveaway Winner")
- Temporary VIP access
- Server boosts
- Free art commissions (if you have an artist in your community)
Setting Up a Giveaway with a Bot
GiveawayBot is the standard:
- Invite GiveawayBot to your server
- Run:
/gstart duration winners prize
/gstart 24h 1 Discord Nitro (1 Month)
- The bot posts a message โ members react with ๐ to enter
- At the end, the bot randomly selects and announces winners
- Run
/grerollif a winner doesn't respond within 24 hours
Entry Requirements to Drive Growth
Instead of letting anyone enter, require actions that benefit your server:
- React with a role emoji โ makes them assign a role
- Be a member for X days โ rewards loyal members, not drive-bys
- Have a minimum level โ prevents bot farming
- Invite X members โ drives referral growth
- Follow a social account โ grows your social presence
Don't make requirements too complex or people won't bother.
Promoting Your Giveaway
- Post in your main announcements channel
- Update your Discords.ai listing to mention the active giveaway
- Share on social media with your server invite
- Ask members to share with friends for bonus entries (if your bot supports it)
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Running giveaways too frequently โ they lose impact
- Not following up with winners promptly
- Allowing bot accounts to enter โ use level requirements
- Picking prizes your audience doesn't care about
