The Ultimate Guide to Control Resonant Updates
Control Resonant is Remedy Entertainment's action RPG sequel to 2019's Control. It launched on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
A day after launch, Remedy revealed its first post-launch roadmap, headlined by two major updates. Here's what they add, what has already changed, and how the game's warped world works.
The Setting
Control Resonant trades the first game's Oldest House for an open, paranaturally warped Manhattan. Players control Dylan Faden, Jesse's brother, who fights with the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon, instead of Jesse's Service Weapon.
Shifting Rooms and Traversal
Reality bending is central to Control Resonant's gameplay. Parts of the city, including interiors, fracture, invert and repeat around Dylan.
- Rush and Elevate: Unlocked during the opening Orientation Fault
- Shift: Earned from the Incursion Fault and core to crossing the warped city
- Reach: Unlocked from the Subway Fault
- Shifting interiors: Missions such as Into the Sinkhole send players through apartment rooms that shift and repeat, guided by audio and visual cues
๐ก Note: Players sensitive to motion can enable Shift Tunneling in Assist Mode, which reduces the effect of rapid movement when using Shift. Remedy's Steam announcements
Update 1: New Game++ (October)
Control Resonant already includes New Game+, but it currently allows only one extra playthrough.
- What changes: New Game++ lets players start one New Game+ run after another
- Progress: Previous campaign runs won't need to be erased
- Release: October 2026, exact date not announced
Remedy even joked that players could do 665 runs if they wanted.
Update 2: Photo Mode (November)
Photo Mode is one of the most requested features.
- Development: Remedy says it has been working on it for a while
- Community input: The studio consulted virtual photographers from the community
- Why it's late: Remedy prioritized getting the core game into the best possible shape for launch
- Release: November 2026, exact date not announced
โ ๏ธ Important: Remedy's first roadmap doesn't include a story expansion or narrative DLC, and the Deluxe Edition doesn't include an expansion pass. Future story content is unconfirmed.
Already Released: Hotfix 1.3.3
Remedy released a launch-day hotfix based on early player data and reviews:
- Reduced health for most early-game enemies
- Easier stuns for the Dancer and Deserter bosses
- Stronger scaling for Dylan's Aberrant and ability strength
- Cheaper ability respecs and more reset items from vendors
- The Artist boss now drops two reset items instead of one
- Clearer combat descriptions in menus
Other Planned Additions
- More cosmetic items for Dylan
- Control Resonant Twitch drops
Why It Matters
Remedy's early roadmap focuses on keeping players engaged after the credits roll. New Game++ supports the game's build-focused progression, while Photo Mode suits one of Remedy's most visually striking worlds.
๐ฎ The Bottom Line
Control Resonant's first updates bring unlimited New Game+ runs in October and Photo Mode in November, following a fast hotfix that rebalanced early combat. Story expansions remain unannounced, but Remedy is clearly committed to supporting the game after launch.
