Extended Operations: 007 First Light's Massive Free DLC and the Switch 2 Delay

Extended Operations: 007 First Light's Massive Free DLC and the Switch 2 Delay

007 First Light just became a much bigger game for players on existing platforms.

IO Interactive has launched Extended Operations, a major free DLC update that adds new ways to replay the campaign, fresh Tactical Simulator content, additional equipment and hundreds of fixes.

The update brings New Game+, a new 00 difficulty, Photo Mode, new TacSim content, new weapons and outfits, improved animations and more than 700 fixes and improvements.

There's just one catch.

While PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players can jump into the new content, Switch 2 players are still waiting.

The Nintendo version has been delayed again, with IO Interactive targeting March 2027.

That makes this update an interesting moment for 007 First Light.

The game is expanding considerably for its existing audience, while Nintendo players are being asked to wait even longer.

Extended Operations Is Much More Than a Normal Patch

IO Interactive isn't treating Extended Operations like a small post-launch update.

The biggest addition is New Game+.

Once players finish the campaign, they can return to the story with additional progression and customization options, giving longtime players another reason to experience Bond's journey.

Then there's the new 00 difficulty.

As the name suggests, this is designed for players who want a tougher challenge after completing the standard campaign.

It fits naturally into the game's progression.

Bond starts his journey as a young recruit, and by the time players reach the highest difficulty, they're essentially being asked to prove they have what it takes to operate at 00 level.

Photo Mode is also being added, giving players the opportunity to capture some of the game's cinematic environments and action sequences.

New Missions, New Gear and an Aston Martin

Extended Operations also expands the game's Tactical Simulator.

Players can take on Jungle Heist, returning to The Pearl in Vietnam, while the new Valhalla Protocol provides another activity built around the Aston Martin Valhalla.

The vehicle-focused content gives players something different from the traditional stealth and shooting encounters.

There are also new weapons and outfits to unlock.

That matters because the update isn't simply increasing the difficulty.

It's giving players more reasons to experiment with different equipment and replay content.

And then there's Jack the Bulldog.

Yes, Bond can pet him.

Even the world's most famous secret agent needs a little downtime.

The 700+ Fixes Might Be the Biggest Story

The new content is obviously the headline attraction, but the sheer number of technical improvements shouldn't be overlooked.

Extended Operations includes more than 700 fixes and improvements.

Those changes cover a huge range of issues, including:

  • Crash and stability problems
  • Progression issues
  • Checkpoint problems
  • Audio improvements
  • Localization corrections
  • UI fixes
  • Animation improvements
  • Camera adjustments
  • Achievement and trophy issues
  • Save and loading problems
  • Mission-specific bugs
  • Performance improvements

Some of these fixes are particularly important because they address problems that could interrupt an entire playthrough.

A cosmetic issue might be annoying.

A broken checkpoint or progression bug can potentially stop a player from continuing.

That's why this update feels more substantial than a typical DLC drop.

IO Interactive is simultaneously adding content and cleaning up the foundation underneath it.

Why the Switch 2 Delay Feels More Noticeable Now

This is where the timing becomes particularly interesting.

Switch 2 players were originally expected to receive 007 First Light alongside the other platforms.

That didn't happen.

The release was pushed back, and the Switch 2 version is now targeting March 2027.

IO Interactive has said the additional time is being used to improve and polish the game's performance on Nintendo's hardware.

For players who have already been waiting, however, another delay is understandably frustrating.

The contrast is especially obvious now.

Existing-platform players are getting a major free expansion.

They're receiving New Game+, a harder difficulty, new missions, additional gear and hundreds of fixes.

Meanwhile, Switch 2 owners still haven't received the base game.

That doesn't necessarily mean the Switch 2 version is in trouble.

Extra development time can allow a studio to properly optimize a demanding game instead of rushing it onto a new platform.

But after multiple delays, players will naturally be watching the final version closely.

What Happens Next?

For existing players, the immediate future is about exploring everything Extended Operations adds.

New Game+ gives the campaign another reason to revisit.

00 difficulty provides a new challenge for experienced players.

Jungle Heist and Valhalla Protocol expand the Tactical Simulator.

And the massive list of fixes should make the overall experience more polished.

IO Interactive has also indicated that development isn't finished.

That means Extended Operations may be another step in the game's broader post-launch roadmap rather than the final major update.

For Switch 2 players, the next major milestone is March 2027.

The additional time gives IO Interactive several more months to work on optimization and performance.

After the delays, the big question will be whether that extra development time translates into a Switch 2 version that feels properly finished rather than simply being a late port.

🎮 The Bottom Line

007 First Light just became a much bigger game without asking existing players to pay for another expansion.

Extended Operations adds meaningful replayability, new missions, a harder difficulty, Photo Mode, new equipment and hundreds of technical fixes.

That's a substantial package.

But the Switch 2 situation remains the awkward part of the story.

While everyone else is getting new Bond content, Nintendo players are still waiting for the game itself.

IO Interactive now has until March 2027 to make that wait worthwhile.

For a game about an agent who is supposed to be ready for anything, 007 First Light has certainly had an eventful mission of its own.
