How to Grow Your League of Legends Discord Server
Growing a League of Legends Discord server requires different strategies than general-purpose servers. LoL players are everywhere — Reddit, TikTok, in-game lobbies — but getting them to your server and keeping them active takes a targeted approach.
Stage 1: Foundation (0–100 Members)
Get the Basics Right First
Before promoting anywhere, your server needs to be functional: a clear channel structure, working rank roles configured with Riot verification, a rules and welcome message, and at least 2–3 active admins and moderators.
Don't promote a half-built server. A new member who joins and finds empty channels or broken bots will leave immediately and never return.
Seed Your Server
Invite your current teammates, friends, and existing Discord connections. Aim for 10–20 active people before any external promotion. A server with real conversation is far more attractive to new members than an empty one.
Stage 2: Discoverability (100–500 Members)
List on discords.ai
Server listing sites are the highest-quality source of LoL server members because visitors are actively looking for communities.
- Add your server on discords.ai
- Write a detailed description mentioning what rank ranges your server is for, that you have Riot rank verification, any unique features like coaching or competitive teams, and your region
- Add tags: league-of-legends, lol, gaming, ranked, lfg, riot-games
- Bump every 2 hours — servers at the top of listings get 3–5× more joins
Post on Reddit
Subreddits where LoL server promotions are accepted: r/LeagueofLegends (self-promotion in weekly threads), r/leagueoflegends_lfg (great for duo and team-finding servers), r/TeamRedditTeams (competitive team servers), and r/discordservers (direct promotion always allowed).
Promote in LoL Game Lobbies
After good games, invite teammates to your server. This has high conversion because you've already built rapport in-game.
Stage 3: Retention (Keep Members Active)
Weekly Events Calendar
Consistency is key. A server with events every week feels alive even when day-to-day chat is slow. Run a Patch Discussion on Mondays, Duo Night on Wednesdays, a 1v1 Tournament on Fridays, Clash Squads on Saturdays, and VOD Review on Sundays.
Gamification Within the Server
Use XP levels with MEE6 or Carl-bot so members rank up by chatting and unlock channels at higher levels. Run a monthly rank challenge where the member with the most LP gained gets a special role. Maintain a server leaderboard tracking the most active members.
The Riot Integration Advantage
With Discord's Riot partnership, rank progression is visible to the whole community. When a member ranks up from Gold to Platinum, set up a bot announcement to congratulate them publicly. This creates social moments and encourages members to share their progress — and keeps them invested in the server.
Stage 4: Scaling (500–5000+ Members)
Cross-Server Partnerships
Partner with other LoL servers in non-competing niches (different regions or rank ranges). Share member counts and activity metrics. Cross-post event announcements. Feature each other in partner-servers channels.
Content Creation
The biggest LoL servers have content pipelines: a clip channel where members submit plays and the best ones get highlighted, a weekly newsletter with curated patch notes and community highlights, and TikTok or YouTube shorts created from member clips with permission.
Optimising Your discords.ai Listing
Include your rank range in the title (e.g. "Gold–Plat LoL Community EUW"). Mention Riot verification, region, and active member count in the description. Use at least 8–10 relevant tags. Upload a 1200×480 banner with LoL art and your server name. Bump every 2 hours without fail. Encourage satisfied members to leave reviews on your listing.
Common Mistakes
Promoting before the server is ready: Build first, promote second.
Rank gates that are too restrictive: Have channels for all rank ranges, with bonus channels for higher ranks.
Letting the server go quiet between events: Pin conversation starters in general daily — tier list polls, "who's your main?" threads.
Not updating ranks: Run update prompts every season reset so members keep accurate roles.
Single admin who disappears: Build a team of 3–5 active mods before you scale.
