Discord Is Actually Building Features Its Users Asked For

Discord has done something its community has been asking for repeatedly: take user suggestions and actually turn them into features.

Earlier in 2026, Discord celebrated its 11th birthday by asking users a simple question:

What should we build next?

The company invited people to submit everything from major feature ideas to tiny quality-of-life fixes. According to Discord, the posts generated millions of views and more than 3,000 responses. Discord says the response was large enough that it assembled a dedicated group of engineers specifically to work on requests coming from the community. (Discord)

And now those ideas are starting to appear inside Discord.

It Started With Discord Asking Users What They Wanted

On May 25, Discord posted a public request asking its community what it should build next as part of its 11th birthday celebrations.

Users responded with everything from major product ideas to incredibly specific interface changes.

Discord later revealed that these posts accumulated more than 3,000 responses, along with millions of views. Instead of simply collecting the feedback, the company says it put together engineers specifically to tackle some of those requests. (Discord)

That has already resulted in a surprisingly large number of changes.

Features Discord Has Added From User Feedback

Pinned DMs Are Finally on Discord Desktop

One of the most useful changes is surprisingly simple.

Discord users can now pin DMs on desktop.

Pinned conversations were already available in parts of the Discord experience, but Discord has now brought the functionality to desktop. Existing pinned conversations from mobile carry across, meaning users do not need to recreate their list. (Discord)

For anyone with dozens or hundreds of conversations, this means friends, staff members, clients or important group chats no longer disappear beneath newer DMs.

It is a small feature, but exactly the type of change long-time Discord users notice immediately.

You Can Now Pin Channels in Any Discord Server

Channel pinning received a similar upgrade.

Discord previously allowed users to personally pin their favourite channels inside Community Servers. Those channels would appear towards the top of the server for that user without changing how the server looked for everyone else.

The restriction has now been removed.

That could be especially useful inside massive servers with dozens or even hundreds of channels.

Instead of repeatedly scrolling past announcements, archives, support categories and inactive channels, members can keep the channels they actually use within reach.

Discord Moderators Got Some Much-Needed Improvements

Discord did not only focus on regular members.

Server owners and moderators received several community-requested improvements too.

One of the biggest is role duplication.

Anyone who has managed a large Discord server will understand why this matters.

Previously, creating another role with similar permissions could involve manually recreating the role and checking its permissions one by one.

Discord has also changed parts of its moderation interface.

Mod View can retain useful context for users who have already been kicked or banned, and Discord says it has made the Audit Log easier to access. A new control also lets servers restrict member pruning specifically to administrators rather than relying only on the previous permission combination. (Discord)

For large communities, those changes could make day-to-day moderation significantly easier.

Discord Finally Lets You Open Profile Pictures Properly

Another surprisingly popular request was extremely simple:

Let us see people's profile pictures properly.

Discord now lets users click an avatar to view the full image.

Before the change, profile pictures were often displayed primarily through Discord's smaller profile interface.

The new full-view option gives users a much better look at custom artwork, memes, photography and detailed avatars. Discord highlighted the feature as another idea directly influenced by community requests. (Discord)

Discord Added More Small Changes Than You Might Realise

Some of the most interesting improvements are not massive headline features.

Discord also added a Friends Since field, making it possible to see how long you have been friends with another person.

Profile bios have been increased to 300 characters, giving users more space for their About Me.

Desktop search now keeps the next-page control visible instead of requiring users to reach the bottom first.

GIF links can now be copied directly from the GIF picker.

These are tiny changes individually, but together they show exactly what happens when a development team starts targeting everyday frustrations instead of only launching huge new systems.

You Can Edit Attachment Details After Sending Them

Discord has also improved attachments.

Users can add or modify accessibility information such as alt text and change whether an image is hidden behind a spoiler after the attachment has already been sent. (Discord)

The ability to update alt text is particularly useful for accessibility.

It also means forgetting to mark something as a spoiler no longer necessarily requires deleting the entire message and uploading it again.

Discord Is Cleaning Up Group DMs Too

Group DMs are another area receiving attention.

Discord now lets users bulk-leave old Group DMs, helping clean up years of inactive conversations.

But Discord is not finished with Group DMs.

One of the bigger requests still being worked on is increasing the Group DM member cap.

Discord Is Also Experimenting With Hiding Profile Badges

Another upcoming change concerns profile badges.

Discord profiles can display badges representing things such as account achievements, Nitro-related status and other distinctions.

This is currently described as an experiment rather than a finished feature, so the exact implementation could still change.

Discord Says More User Ideas Are Coming

Perhaps the biggest part of Discord's announcement is what happens next.

Discord says the current features are only highlights from the suggestions it has already received.

Smaller community-requested improvements are expected to continue appearing through regular Discord Patch Notes, while larger ideas may influence Discord's longer-term product roadmap. (Discord)

That means this does not appear to have been a one-off birthday event.

Discord is signalling that community feedback could play a larger role in deciding what gets built next.

Can You Still Send Discord Feature Ideas?

Yes.

Discord updated its official feedback documentation in September 2026 and continues to accept product suggestions through its feedback form.

Users can choose a category, explain the feature or improvement they want and submit it directly to Discord.

According to Discord, submissions are routed internally to relevant teams such as Product, Engineering or Design. However, Discord also makes clear that submitting an idea does not guarantee it will be implemented, users will not normally receive an individual response, and Discord does not provide an ETA for suggestions. Discord Listening to Its Community Could Be a Big Deal

Discord has changed dramatically over the last several years.

New profiles, Nitro features, server tools, Activities, Quests, mobile redesigns and countless interface changes have transformed the platform.

But some of the most requested improvements have always been much simpler.

Pin this conversation. Let me duplicate this role. Make this button easier to find. Let me see the full profile picture. Give Group DMs more room.

Discord's latest approach suggests those smaller frustrations are getting more attention.

And if Discord continues doing it, the next feature added to the platform could genuinely start with an idea posted by someone in the community.
