Discord Account Disabled: What to Do Next

Seeing "Your account has been disabled" when you try to log into Discord is alarming. Here's what it means, why it happens, and what you can actually do about it.

What "Disabled" Means

A disabled Discord account can't be logged into or used. It's different from a temporary suspension — disabled accounts require active review to restore.

Your account data isn't deleted immediately. Discord retains data for a period after disabling. If you appeal successfully, your account may be restored.

Why Discord Disables Accounts

Common reasons:

Terms of Service violations:

  • Harassment or threats to other users
  • Spam or raid activity
  • NSFW content in non-NSFW spaces
  • Account age violation (under 13)
  • Sharing prohibited content (CSAM, illegal content)

Platform safety flags:

  • Automated detection of suspicious behavior (mass DMs, bot-like activity)
  • Reports from multiple users
  • Joining servers flagged as harmful

Payment or commercial violations:

  • Chargebacks on Nitro subscriptions
  • Fraudulent use of Discord's partner programs

How to Appeal

Go to: support.discord.com

Submit a ticket under "Appeals, age update, or other questions" and select "Appeal an action taken on my account."

What to include in your appeal:

  1. Your account email address
  2. Your Discord tag and user ID (if you know them)
  3. When you first noticed the account was disabled
  4. A clear, honest statement of what happened
  5. Why you believe the action was in error (if applicable)

Tone matters. Appeals that are aggressive, dismissive, or that blame Discord staff tend to fail. Appeals that are polite, specific, and honest tend to succeed.

What Not to Do

Don't create a new account immediately. If your original account was banned for policy violations, creating a new account ("ban evasion") is itself a violation and can result in permanent platform removal.

Don't harass Discord staff on social media. Tagging Discord on Twitter to pressure support outcomes doesn't work and can complicate your appeal.

Don't share sensitive personal information publicly while trying to resolve the issue.

Timeline

Discord support response times vary. Routine appeals may take several business days to several weeks. Complex cases take longer.

You'll receive a response to the email address associated with your Discord account. Check spam folders.

If Your Appeal Is Denied

If Discord denies your appeal and you believe it's a genuine error, you can submit one additional appeal. If the second appeal is also denied, the decision is typically final.

At that point, if you want to use Discord, you can create a new account — but understand that creating a new account while your original account is banned is considered ban evasion and may result in that account being disabled too.

Prevention

The best approach is to keep your account in good standing:

  • Read Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
  • Don't mass-DM users
  • Don't join servers you've been warned about
  • Don't use selfbots or automation tools
  • Keep your Nitro subscription payments current
