A Note on Switch 2 Performance

Iron Gate hasn't published detailed Switch 2 benchmark numbers ahead of launch. Since the game only releases September 9, hands on performance data isn't available yet. Once benchmarks appear post launch, this section can be updated with real framerate and resolution figures.

โ„๏ธ The Deep North: Final Biome

The Deep North is Valheim's eighth and final planned biome. It sits at the northernmost edge of every world, behind a glacier wall.

The Deep North features a frozen landscape that grows more dangerous the deeper players explore, introducing new enemy types including Gammeltrolls and Elakingar, alongside underground dungeons, abandoned villages, and decrepit castles.

New Content Confirmed

  • Gammeltrolls โ€” new frost themed enemy type
  • Elakingar โ€” additional hostile creature
  • Grappling hook โ€” new tool for vertical traversal
  • Ice skating mechanic โ€” usable on frozen lakes
  • Lingonberries โ€” new food resource, used in a Swedish meatball recipe
  • Drawbridges โ€” new buildable piece, long requested by the community
  • 50+ new achievements added across the full 1.0 update

๐Ÿ‘น Endgame Boss Mechanics

Fader: The Current Final Boss

Fader currently caps off the boss progression, guarding the Ashlands biome.

  • Combines melee, ranged, and magic attacks
  • Uses a Fissure attack below 35% health that can't be blocked or dodged
  • Summons meteors similar to Yagluth's attack pattern
  • Spawns adds more aggressively as its health drops, discouraging slow, cautious play

The Deep North's Boss: Still Secret

Iron Gate has kept the Deep North's final boss under wraps. The only confirmed detail comes from art director Robin Eyre, who has stated it is not Loki, despite long standing community speculation.

โฐ Do I need to buy Valheim again to get the 1.0 update?

No. Version 1.0, including the Deep North biome, is a free update for anyone who already owns Valheim. The $29.99 price only applies to new buyers purchasing the game for the first time.
