Discord Server Templates: Complete Guide

Discord server templates are pre-built server configurations you can clone into a new server with one click.

How to Use a Template

Option 1: Use a Template Link

  1. Find a template link (discord.new/templatecode)
  2. Click the link
  3. Discord asks: 'Create a server from this template?' โ€” click Use Template
  4. Name your server and choose an icon
  5. Click Create

Option 2: Browse Discord's Templates

  1. Click the + icon to add a server
  2. Choose Create My Own or select a purpose category
  3. Discord shows recommended templates

What Templates Include

Templates give you:

  • Pre-built channel categories
  • Pre-named text and voice channels
  • Role structure
  • Channel permission overrides

Templates do NOT include:

  • Bots (you add these yourself)
  • Existing messages
  • Members
  • Server icon or banner

Best Template Types by Purpose

Gaming Server: #announcements, #rules, #general, #game-discussion, #clips, #lfg, voice channels

Community Server: #welcome, #rules, #roles, #introductions, #general, #off-topic, #media

Study Server: #rules, #resources, subject channels, #homework-help, #accountability

Business/Professional: #announcements, #general, #resources, #networking, #promote-yourself

How to Create Your Own Template

  1. Set up your server exactly how you want it
  2. Go to Server Settings โ†’ Template
  3. Give your template a name and description
  4. Click Generate Template
  5. Share the link anywhere

Tips for Using Templates

  • Customise immediately: Templates are a starting point, not a final product
  • Check channel permissions: Not all templates set permissions correctly
  • Delete unused channels: An empty channel makes your server look inactive
  • Add bots after applying the template
