Ahead of Prime Day, which runs from June 23 to 26, a few early deals have already gone live if you're an Amazon Prime member. You can pick up The Hobbit: A Graphic Novel Adaptation of the Fantasy Classic by Chuck Dixon for just $9.59, saving you 58% off of the sticker price of $23. This is a fully illustrated version of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic, abridged from the original novel in great detail.
The adaptation was handled by comics writer Chuck Dixon with art from David Wenzel, who has done Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings art for comics for years. This paperback printing compiles the original three-issue miniseries originally released by Eclipse Comics in 1989, but includes plenty of additional pages with more artwork. The story is unchanged from Tolkien's original, and follows Thorin Oakenshield and his band of dwarves as they recruit the unassuming Hobbit Bilbo Baggins for the most unexpected journey. But since it's in graphic novel form, the story has been carefully abridged to both work better within the medium and offer new fans a slightly easier barrier to entry.
The Deluxe Illustrated Edition is also on sale
If you're looking for a deal on the original works instead, the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Pocket box set is also at a new low price for Prime members; you can grab the four-book collection for just $24.92 compared to its $75 retail price tag. This version of the book features illustrations from Tolkien himself. You can check out our guide to all of the illustrated LotR books for more info.
Should You Wait for Prime Day to Buy?
Amazon has officially labeled this discount as a 'Prime Deal', which means it's only available to Amazon Prime members. It isn't technically part of Amazon's Prime Day sale, but that doesn't make it any less of a good deal. This is the overall lowest price on this graphic novel we've ever seen on Amazon. And while it isn't likely to drop further in price for Prime Day this year, it's possible it could get swept up in some sort of Prime Day promotional sale later in June. This is typically a '3 for 2' sale or a 'buy 2 get 1 50% off' sale that Amazon applies to a wide range of books. If you're hoping to buy more than just this box set, it could be worth waiting a little bit longer for that larger sale as it's a better time to buy books overall when those discounts are happening.
