Bethesda and id Software have revealed a first look at Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, a new campaign DLC release that’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S with a July 7, 2026, release date.

First gameplay showed the Doomslayer is sticking to his medieval theme for the add-on content, as he can be seen dismantling enemies with a new weapon called the Chain Spear throughout a collection of snowy environments. It can, of course, be hucked into demons, but it can also be used to reflect bullets. A few shots also show him using the new tool to grapple to ledges and levitate around enemies.

You'd be forgiven for thinking a Doom trailer would stick to surface-level FPS gameplay, but a few blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments also show that players will be revisiting a few close-quarters retro locations, too. You can see all of the bloody gameplay below.

"Wounded and betrayed, the Slayer is thrust into a merciless purgatory only escapable by confronting haunting truths and forging new strength with the help of a mysterious ally," an official story description shared in a post from Bethesda said. "He must ascend from the prison of his mind and fight an abomination of the gods to set his followers on the path to freedom."

While that Chain Spear was no doubt the showstealer for the presentation, Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations is said to come with deeper puzzles, new demons, and new mysteries to uncover. The Ripatorium 3.0 update – which adds more customization options, improved passcode generation, and more – will launch for free for all players alongside the expansion come July 7. Those who own the DLC will also gain access to three new maps, demons, and additional weapons.

Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations delivers the installment’s first campaign expansion when it launches this summer. Those who own the base game's premium edition or collector's bundle can access the expansion at no extra cost, but it will also be available to purchase on its own for $19.99.

IGN gave Doom: The Dark Ages a 9/10 review upon its launch in May 2025. If you need to catch up on all of the biggest reveals, you can check out everything announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026.
