Discord Screen Share in Brazil Is Still Blocked. When Will It Return?

If you're in Brazil and your Go Live button has been greyed out for weeks, it isn't a bug. Discord screen share in Brazil has been switched off since 17 August 2026, along with video calls, after an order from the country's data protection authority.

Two months on, it still hasn't come back. Discord has appealed, the regulator has pushed back, and a final decision is now in the hands of the agency's board.

🚫 What's Blocked and What Still Works

❓ Why Discord Turned It Off

The ANPD ordered the suspension on 12 August, as part of an investigation under Brazil's child online safety law, known as the ECA Digital. Discord switched the features off on 17 August.

In a letter to Brazilian users, Discord co-founder Stanislav Vishnevskiy said the order followed the death of a teenage girl after a "coordinated sadistic harm campaign" across multiple platforms. Discord said it is working with law enforcement on the case.

The ANPD has described the move as "a temporary, preventive measure, not a sanction," Revista Oeste reports. Discord disagrees with the decision but says it is complying.

📅 Where the Appeal Stands

Here's the timeline so far, based on Brazilian news reports:

Why was the first appeal rejected? According to O Tempo, the ANPD said Discord's evidence "shows what appears on screen" but didn't prove the block worked across its whole system. It asked for technical records such as logs, tests and architecture documents.

🔮 When Could Discord Screen Share in Brazil Come Back?

Nobody knows yet. Discord's help article says: "we don't have a specific date for you when these features will become available again."

What we do know is the condition. Revista Oeste reports the ANPD said video features could return, fully or partly, once Discord shows technical, security and governance measures that protect children and teenagers, and proves they work in practice.

So the most likely paths are:

• The board rules for Discord, and features return with new safeguards.
• The board upholds the block, and Discord has to build new protections first.
• A partial return, for example restoring some features before others.

🛡️ Don't Use a VPN or Modded Client to Get Around It

It's tempting. Agência Brasil reports one VPN company saw an 800% jump in Brazilian sign-ups. But there are real risks:

• The ANPD says the order covers everything, including apps, browsers, consoles, old versions, extensions and modified clients, O Tempo reports.
• Discord removed workaround apps once the regulator raised them.
• Modified clients break Discord's rules. Discord's terms ban "unauthorized software designed to modify the services."

Voice still works, so lean on it:

• Run events in Stage channels for talks, Q&As and watch-alongs with audio. Our guide to Stage channels vs voice channels explains when to use each.
• Share clips, not streams. Upload recorded gameplay or screenshots to a channel.
• Use voice for gaming sessions. Audio calls and voice channels are unaffected.
• Pin an explainer so new members know it's a legal order, not a broken server.
